The next cold case for Project Power Ranger to crack wasn't as old as the first, only 5 years ago, so the killer might still be alive. One chilly night, the body of a young woman was found, her face looked to be a bloody mess and there were signs that she had been sexual assaulted. They had all the evidence right there in front of them and yet police, in order to save money, had given themselves two days and when that time elapsed, they threw the case into storage and let it go cold. And since no one had come forward...
The woman in question, Kitty May, was not a prostitute, although the clothes she was wearing that night made her look like one and she was in their part of town. However, in her handbag were certain items you wouldn't find on a prostitute: mainly, a small can of Pepper Spray, Driver's Licence and Passport (confirming her ID). But, what they didn't find was a purse and her car keys, which she would never leave home without, the killer must've made it look like a robbery. If they had to, they would claim that this was a mugging gone bad, but behind their backs, others were not so convinced.

Barry set the case file down onto the table.
"Interesting to say the least." Said Sheamus.
"You are gonna have fun with that one (!)" May said to him, sarcastically.
"Hey, my ability still works in this case." Sheamus replied.
"Yeah, and what about yours?" Jake asked. "There aren't many pictures of this case."
"Enough, Jake!" Snapped Barry. "It's not her fault. Besides, I'm the one who hasn't seen much of their power. I haven't seen a single person from the past since our first case."
"What about that Nurse that now lives in your apartment?" Asked Jake.
"She's a ghost. She doesn't count." Barry told him.
After the death of Graham 'Lawmaker' Jules, Barry had 'adopted' his Nurse ghost. She couldn't bare strangers so staying with a familiar face might help her deal with the move. So far, she had settled. Although, she's still as shy as ever.

At the time of her death, the victim lived with a cousin of hers, crashing on her sofa-bed. She got her own food in, cleaned her own dishes with her own washing up liquid and did her own laundry, with her own washing powder and fabric softener. May and Sheamus went along to the address, only to find it deserted and by the looks of it, it hadn't been used in a while.
Back at the station, May found a superior officer in the break room. He was at the cafetiere, a special device that makes coffee. By happenstance, he was the leading officer on the case.
"Hey, you remember the case of Kitty May?" She asked him. "From about 5 years ago?"
"Oh, you mean that poor girl who was found in the Hooker's District." He remembered. "By the way, that's the nickname of that part of town."
"Didn't leave much to the imagination, did they?" May asked.
"No, they didn't." He replied. "Anyway, what about it?"
"Well, I just came from the cousin's place." May told him. "How come it's abandoned?"
"Because no one wants to live in a place where someone died." He told her.
"How? Since when?" May asked.
"4 years ago, on the first anniversary of her cousin's death, neighbours found her hanging by the neck from the stairs." He explained. "Her stereo was found at the top of the stairs and the music it was playing was depressing enough. The Snowman, you know the sort of thing."
"Hmmm." May murmured in agreement. "How can you be sure it was suicide?"
"Witnesses." He replied.
"But, ARE you sure it was suicide?" May asked again. "Witnesses can be bribed or blackmailed."
"I know law enforcement has a reputation of labelling a death 'Suicide' without bothering to investigate properly." He admitted.
"It's like your bloody default setting." May replied. "It's no wonder we're swamped."
"'We'?" He asked.
"'We' as in 'Project Power Ranger'." May told him. "We're a recently formed elite group that handle cold cases."
"Oh really?" The officer asked. "Well, if you don't believe me..." He took a photo out of his back pocket; it was off Kitty's cousin as she was found. "...Have a look. It is true that you can look at a photo and tell the 1000 words it's worth, right?"
"Yeah." May replied and she took the photo from the officer's hands.
Damn it, he was right. As soon as she looked at it, it told her that she had indeed committed suicide: She had started playing the theme of The Snowman and put it on repeat, she was the one who had tied the noose to the bannister, she was the one who inserted her head through the loop, climbed up over the railing and fell off the other side. And no one had made her do it.
"Damn it, you're right." She finally told him.
"See, there are some good officers in this department." He replied, taking the photo back.
"You heard about the Lieutenant Super, huh?" May asked.
"Everyone's heard about that." The officer replied.
"Really?" May asked, sounding embarrassed.
"Yep." The officer whispered.
Then, the officer was called by someone outside.
"I gotta go." He told May.
"Sure." She replied.
When he was gone, she watched him go for a moment. Then she remembered that she was already in love.
